But what about: Contrasts

Eighty years after his death, violinist Merel Vercammen and ensemble But What About explore the musical world of Béla Bartók in an interactive concert for violin, accordion, and (bass) clarinet.
The starting point is his iconic work Contrasts (1938), through which we unravel the apparent oppositions in his music: modernism versus folk music, composition versus improvisation. With the audience as our guide, we trace Bartók’s musical development, examining his methods and combining his works with improvisations in his spirit. Bartók’s well-known Romanian Dances will also be part of the programme.
